The churches route
(5 Days/ 4 Nights)

16 churches have been declared by UNESCO as World Heritage, which comes to enhance even more their status of national Monuments. We want you, throughout this program, to feel and know the characteristics that make Chiloe a unique place.

ITINERARY
• Day 1 Airport - Castro
• Day 2 Castro city tour - Nercon – Vilupulli – Chonchi
• Day 3 Castro – Putemun – Dalcahue – Achao – Quinchao
• Day 4 Castro – San Juan – Tenaun – Aucar – Quemchi
• Day 5 Castro – Ancud – Airport

Day 1 Airport - Castro
Reception at the “El Tepual” airport, transfer to Puerto Montt city to take to the bus terminal, where you’ll board a regular schedule bus with destination to Castro. Reception at the bus terminal, and transfer to the hotel of your choice.

Day 2 Castro city tour - Nercon – Vilupulli – Chonchi
At the morning and in a way of introducing you to an architectural Chiloe, we’ll take you in a tour along the city, where you’ll get to know Gamboa bridge small square to appreciate the buildings above the water known as “palafitos” and an artisanal shipyard. We continue then to the Municipal Museum so you can get a general idea of people and history in Chiloe, then we follow with a visit to San Francisco Church, UNESCO World Heritage. As a way of contrasting the times, we’ll visit the Modern Art Museum, settled in old wooden buildings, and finally Ten-Ten peninsula, from where you’ll have panoramic views of Castro and its fiord.
By the afternoon, our tour to the town of Chonchi we’ll take you to see the World Heritage churches of Nercón, Vilupulli and Chonchi.

Day 3 Castro – Putemun – Dalcahue – Achao – Quinchao
Departure to Dalcahue, and passing by Putemun, where you’ll get to understand the meaning of “Mingas de tiradura” (relocation of houses through community work). When we arrive to Dalcahue, we’ll visit its interesting church, and small but attractive museum and, if it is Sunday, a tour along its market. Then, we’ll cross to Quinchao Island, traveling through secondary roads which we’ll take you to meet the agricultural life, history, craftwork and culture of this island. Arrival to the town known as “Curaco de Velez”, with its attractive seaside promenade and a black-necked swan’s community. A short walk to its old larch houses and we continue then to Achao, where you’ll get to know the oldest church in the archipelago, which unique characteristic is that it was built without nails; it has also been declared World Heritage. Lunch (optional). Visit to some craftwork markets and then we continue to some panoramic viewpoints which will allow you to appreciate the wide amount of islands in this important archipelago. Return to Castro.

Day 4 Castro – San Juan – Tenaun – Aucar – Quemchi
During this day, by a seaside road, along the inner sea, you’ll have the possibility to know San Juan, the carpenters famous for the artisanal ships and its World Heritage church. A visit to Tocoihue waterfall, to travel then to Tenaun fishermen cove and have lunch by its World Heritage three towers church. By the afternoon, the island of Aucar and its footbridge. And finally, the birthplace of the famous writer Francisco Coloane, Quemchi.

Day 5 Castro – Ancud – Airport
Leaving early, we’ll take you Ancud to know the more significant spots in this town: the Blue Museum (Museo Azul) we’ll give you an idea of the geographical, historical and cultural dimensions of this island. San Antonio fort, the mythology yard, the fishermen cove and the market will give testimony of this. At convened time, transfer to Ancud’s bus terminal, on time to take a regular schedule bus to Puerto Montt. Reception at the bus terminal and transfer to the airport for the next flight.
